Twenty Grammes is the ideal weight of coffee grounds to pull a good espresso shot, and also the name of a new Ice Cream Waffles Café at North Bridge Road.
Their service is earnest, very friendly, and the café offers some many flavours of ice cream, such as Rum n Raisin, Honey-Scotch, Cookies & Cream, Vanilla, Walnut Butterscotch, Strawberry, and Triple Chocolate.
A scoop is at $3.90 (2 scoops $6.90, 3 scoops $9.50) while a Waffle with a scoop is $9.50.
The challenge for Twenty Grammes, is really to differentiate themselves from at least 10 other new ice cream + waffles café out there. Not to mention the current trend has quickly moved on to soft serves and frozen yogurt.
Coffee is brewed using beans from Papa Palhelta’s Throwback blend, cakes are from Ply Baked Goods, and tarts from Windowsill.
You see, hipsters would have already tried all of the above, so their signature item has to be really good.
I liked both the ice cream flavours selected – Boysenberry (berry based) and Honey-Scotch (honey flavoured with crispy butterscotch). The texture belonged to the creamier and dense type, and tilted more to the sweet side.
Waffles was… okay. Could be a little crispy on the exterior and fluffy on the inside, but it was, okay. It needs some sauce, some toppings, some form of plating, just something to elevate from its present look.
If I was in the vicinity, I won’t mind going to try a scoop or two if I need some ice cream to cool down. It’s decent. But Twenty Grammes probably need to quickly find a unique selling point.
