The (almost) hole-in-the-wall Mavrx Coffee Bar at Duxton Hill has become a place to gather for coffee aficionados around Tanjong Pagar. Gosh, it has been 4 years since its opening.
Little did I expect the coffee bar to open another outlet at Great World City, at the office tower side.
Unfortunately, they have also ended operations of the original outlet at Duxton Hill.
First and foremost, “Mavrx” is pronounced as “Mavericks”, just in case.
As the owners believe the best ideas are brewed over a great cup of coffee, the name is a celebration of “mavericks” – individuals doing things from works of originality, creativity, to experimentation.
To retain some of those “hipster” vibes, a wall on the side features the words “Get Shit Done” and cups with puny captions. They are all different, grab a takeaway and read away.
Similar to the first outlet, there is no proper sit-down space per se, but there are benches around for you to hold conversations. But nothing is stopping the person next to you from listening to everything… Why do people talk so loud at coffee places by the way?
Mavrx Coffee Bar serves up cups of Espresso ($3.50), Flat White ($5), Latte ($5), Cappuccino ($5), Mocha ($5.50), and the not-so-common Genmaicha Latte ($5.50) and Yuzu Cooler ($5.50).
It also offers options of House Blend and Single Origin – a Kenya Rianjagi with blackcurrent, lemonade sweetness, and juicy finish.
This went well with the Espresso and Tonic ($5.50), with a shot of espresso topped with fizzy tonic water and lime wedge of lime.
The coppery-coloured drink can be a life-safer if you need both a refreshing and caffeinated drink during one of those hot days.
The fruitiness the coffee and the bubbliness make this “summer time” drink crisp and cooling, though I am aware not everyone likes this.
