Kooks Creamery - Unicorn Molten Cookie With Rainbow Lava And Ice Cream, At The Cathay

Ice cream falling onto molten cookies was a-thing 2 years ago. But Singaporeans do get bored easily, are quick to forget, and would move on to the next food trend.

Kooks Creamery has launched a new version – Build Your Own Unicorn Lava Set ($10).

The café is known for serving up molten lava Kooks (which are actually cookies) topped with a scoop of ice cream.

The contrast of hot and cold is appealing to many.

With the first outlet at Serangoon Ave 4, it has just opened a new outlet at The Cathay, set to attract students in the vicinity.

The menu is straight-forward – Ice Cream ($3.60 for single, $6 for double, $8.40 for triple, additional $0.50 for premium flavours) and Lava Cookies ($5.50).

Lava Cookie Sets are available at $8.50 for Chocolate molten cookie, and Matcha molten cookie with a scoop of ice cream.

Ice cream flavours I spotted included Thai Milk Tea, Ferrero Rocher, Classic Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Mint, Brown Butter, Speculoos, Nougat, Milk Cereal, Rum and Raisin, Black Sesame and Raspberry Lychee.

However, (perhaps it is an age thing) I generally thought that the ice cream tried were too sweet.

After 3 tries, I felt bad and quickly settled for the Matcha which I assumed would be the safest in terms of sweetness level.

The Unicorn Lava Cookie ($10) is a build-your-own set, which means you get to ‘paste’ the eyes, horn and ears on your own.

Whether the unicorn looks ugly or not, you can only blame it yourself.

As the ice cream fell on top, the cookie broke apart, and seeped out rainbow-coloured lava.

Hmm… looked pretty attractive, but the lava was really too little to create a bigger impact.

The fillings were white chocolate base, and even reminded me of condensed milk to an extent. I might have picked a more complementary flavour to balance it out.

Cookie was crisp, coffee was forgettable, the process of assembling was fun in a way, I just wished the ice cream could go lower on the sugar.
