Honeymill – Honey Drinks Made by A Robot, At Marina One

Honeymill claims that they are the world’s first honey store to offer cups of different honey drinks mixed by a robot.

Yeah, Smart Nation.

The shop at the basement of Marina One also offers a range of honeys from all over the world, snacks such as breadsticks with honey crème dip, and healthy no-bake cakes with no added preservatives or colourings.

Sometimes it would attract curious on-lookers to see what was going on.

There are a couple of Signature Honey Drinks such as Citrus C ($5.80) – citrus honey added with passion fruit, lemon and honey jelly; Rawsome Blossom ($6.80) of raw honey added with wolfberry and honey jelly; Eucaberry ($5.80) – eucalyptus honey with wolfberry and aloe vera; and Manuka Mystic ($6.80) of Manuka honey added with basil seeds, calamansi and aloe vera.

Customer can also create personalised honey drinks with a choice of floral, nutty, fruity base, alongside toppings such as coffee jelly.

So the irony?

The robot malfunctioned the first time I went down.

During my second visit, I was recommended a Dairy Adventure ($4.80) of leatherwood honey, milk, coffee jelly and honey jelly. (Leatherwood honey comes from Tasmania and is one of its rarest and finest honey.)

It was fairly interesting to watch the cup go from empty to full, to watch a robotic arm add in honey, stir, include other ingredients and ice.

The entire process took about a minute or two, and I would assume using the robot meant better precision in terms of measurement, hygiene and freeing up the human staff for other work.

Well, I generally enjoyed the refreshing drink, especially the honey which was of reasonably good quality and jelly relatively melty-soft.

The shortcoming was, a good portion of the honey was stuck at the bottom of the cup, not well mixed together by the robot.

And because the top portion were cubes of ice, it was also hard for me to physically stir it in with the straw.

The staff apologized to the next customer, telling her he would physically add in the lemon.

So, tasty drinks, good honey, and a not-so-reliable robot?
