[Taipei, Taiwan] If there is anything that is as common as bubble milk tea in Taipei, matcha desserts will be one of those.

As a matcha lover myself, I was naturally drawn to the places such as The Lobby of Simple Kaffa and Myowa Japanese Sweet Cafe 和茗甘味處 that serve a variety of interesting ones.

Located right next to Zhongshan Junior High School along Fuxing North Road, La Chaudière Coffee 樂初咖啡is known for their Matcha Cake (TWD105, SGD$4.90) with a oozing centre.

This particular dessert had captured my attention, and my heart.

A minimum spending of one beverage per person is imposed, which doesn’t include main dishes or desserts.

My attention was quickly drawn to the Matcha Cake (TWD105, SGD$4.90), Matcha Chocolate Mascarpone Tart (TWD120, SGD$5.60), Matcha Chocolate (TWD150, SGD$7), Matcha Milk (TWD120, SGD$5.60) and Matcha (TWD105, SGD$4.90) on the menu.

Matcha overdose, anyone?

The probably of so matcha-choices, so little stomach space.

The pricing was considered reasonable compared to other cafes within Taipei, even though some travelers might not get the idea of the imposition of a minimum spending every, single, café.

The highlight was definitely the Matcha Cake (TWD105, SGD$4.90), made using Shizuoka matcha powder to give a light bitterness in every bite.

Shaped like a doughnut with a light and fluffy texture of a sponge cake, the bitterness of the matcha complemented well with the sweetness of the sesame cream.

Coupled with the oozing matcha sauce in the centre of the palm-sized ring, there was extra bitterness in a subtle way, suitable for the hardcore matcha lovers (like me!).

The Matcha (TWD105, SGD$4.90) with an almost 1:1 ratio of matcha to milk, was smooth with detectable green tea notes in it.

For non-matcha drinkers, less common beverages such as Toffee, Honey, or Sesame Baileys Latte (TWD180, SGD$8.50) are available.

La Chaudière Coffee is quite a hidden gem, located away from the crowded area of Taipei and is a good spot for a quiet coffee session.
