Club Kilo Charcoal Club – Chill Out With Roasted Piggu, BBQ Ribs and Lechon
“They asked me how I knew. My true love was true…” Those from my era and above would know what I am trying to convey with these song lyrics.
The team behind Kilo and Grain Traders at Market Street has launched quite a different concept – Camp Kilo Charcoal Club at Kampong Bugis. Fans of Loysel’s Toy should be familiar with this location.
This is like having a barbecue right in your backyard, with a more expensive price tag.
The Fridays and weekends-only eatery is inspired by semi-outdoor pig-roast parties, serving meats such as Whole Roasted Pig ($12 for 100g), Boneless Lechon ($12 for 100g), Chipotle BBQ Ribs ($15 for half, $30 for whole), Crispy Pork Belly ($10 for 100g), and Roasted French Poussin Chicken ($10 for half, $18 for whole).
Just thought that I should warn you that if you are truly intending to come for a DATE: dress in tees, shorts and flip-flops (you know, the usual gear Singaporeans wear to the neighbourhood malls).
To exaggerate a little, also bring a portable fan and Febreze.
Seating is open, outdoors, close to the serene nature of Kallang’s riverside. Pray for breeze.
Perhaps the type of place to get a whole gang of buddies for a slow weekend with meats and drinks. (Do be prepared for Round 2 if not filling enough).
If you are there early evening, head to the kitchen at the back to watch this whole 30kg hog cooking on their self-made spit for more than 4 hours. (PinkyPiggu should totally come here for wefies.)

There is no menu per se, all written on paper at the ordering counter.
I thought food was slightly on the expensive side. Be prepared to spend about $35 – $60 or more per pax (rough estimate).
The Iced Lemon Tea was $6 for a small cup. And I possibly needed three.
The best things here were the sides of yummy Patata Bravas ($12) with the addictive spicy aioli, and to a lesser extent the Burnt Carrots ($14).
Lechon had a delicious crisp crackling, not too oily, rustic smoky flavours and rather tender meat.
Roast chicken was marinated in exciting-sounding Kat Yang or Jerk Marinade. Wished the meat was juicier though.
Similarly, the Corn Bread with Honey Butter was dry. Blah.
Overall, a fuss-free hang out place for let your hair loose and get your fingers dirty. Be careful about letting smoke get in your eyes.
