Authentic Taiwanese Cuisine BUFFET at Seasonal Tastes, 6-17 March 2016
For fans of Taiwanese cuisine and street food, this is a buffet meal you cannot miss.
For 10 nights only from 6 to 17 of March (except 11 & 12 March), Seasonal Tastes at The Westin Singapore will offer authentic Taiwanese delicacies! You don’t even have to fly over to experience Taiwan all over again.
Think Taiwanese Fried Chicken, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, thick flavourful Oyster Vermicelli, Yilan-style Pork Intestine and Garlic Stew, and even Bubble Tea… probably all your favourites.
Experience the “Yin Shi Wen Hua”.
The meal is specially prepared by W Taipei’s Sous Chef Daniel Chen, who will present authentic dishes from his home city, including some of his personal local favourites to tantalize your taste buds.
Here are some of the highlights from TASTY TAIWAN at Seasonal Tastes
Crispy Stuffed Pork Drumstick 龍鳳腿
This dish which is called the ‘Dragon Phoenix Leg’, a Crispy Stuffed Pork Drumstick, wrapped then deep fried. It was created initially using minced pork instead of the chicken thigh when chicken was still deemed too expensive for most people.
The skin has a web-like pattern which looks like the scales of a dragon, is made from chicken (which symbolises the phoenix) and thus the name.
This is one of Chef Daniel’s (love the name btw) favourite street food from Yilan, which I remember having at Luodong Night Market. Always a long queue.
Selection of Four Assorted Taiwanese Braised Appetizers 台湾滷味
These braised appetizers are commonly found in banquets in Taiwan. I usually love to eat these soy braised tofu slices and big intestines with porridge. Simple pleasures!
Taiwanese Sausage with Sticky Rice 大腸包小腸
Are you a fan of the Taiwanese street food Da Chang Bao Xiao Chang? Literally big sausage (glutinous rice) wrap small sausage (Taiwanese style pork sausage).
This is one of my favourite street food ever – I say even better than a hot dog. Those big, juicy, fatty sausages will be served, but in a different modern style. Slurp.
Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodle Soup 台灣牛肉麵
One of Taiwan’s most classic noodle dish. The Braised Beef Noodle Soup will be prepared a la minute at the ‘live’ station.
The bowl comes with handmade chewy noodles, soft pieces of beef, and lush broth that is warming and hearty.
Tainan Danzai Noodle 台南擔仔麵
Also known as the Ta-A or ‘Shoulder Pole’ Noodles, this dish is popular in Southern Taiwan, served in a small bowl with savoury shrimp-flavoured soup.
Tube Rice Pudding 筒仔米糕
This street food is famous and easily found in Taipei, but I seldom see it here in Singapore, as preparation can be labour-intensive.
The Tube Rice Pudding typically consists of sticky rice, mushroom, minced meat stir-fried together then steamed in a bamboo tube, then topped with sauces. Salivating already.
Traditional Savory Rice Pudding with Pork and Soy Sauce 台灣碗糕
My Taiwanese friends call this the ‘Wa Gei’, a savoury rice cake dish steamed and served in a rice bowl, topped with umami pork, mushroom, dried shrimp then drizzled with soy sauce.
Peanut Rice Cake 花生糕
Round off the meal with sweet treats like the iconic Taiwanese pastry Pineapple Cake – mini crumbly, buttery pastries filled with candied pineapple; or sticky, chewy Peanut Mochi.
Sweet Potato and Taro Balls 地瓜芋圆
This dessert is a typical must-have during a trip to Jiu Fen, consisting of soft, sweet and chewy sweet potato and yam balls in a sweet soup with goji berries.
Note: Some specialty food is on rotational basis.
Tasty Taiwan is available for dinners only from 6 – 10 March and 13 – 17 March from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Seasonal Tastes, Level 32, at $78++ per adult.
