South Bronx – Homegrown Burger Joint With Mac & Cheese, Thai, Spam Burgers!
Burgers are still a big thing in Singapore, and we have seen specialised burger joints Wolf at Pasar Bella Suntec City, Wildfire Burgers, The Butchers Club Burger, and MEATLiquor opening up, though of varying success.
Happy to see another home-grown burger joint South Bronx which also features burgers that are Asian-style, think Bangkok influenced Thai-Tanium ($14) and Korean G-Dragon burger ($14.00).
Hands will get a little dirty when customers chomp down a South Bronz Burger, juicy and saucy, matched with soft house-baked brioche burger buns.
With a colourful graffiti wall in the interior and trendy hip-hop music, the concept is by-and large influenced by the hip burger joints in the Big Apple.
The brioche buns are freshly made in-house daily to create a good bread with thin crispy outer layer and soft chewy centre; patties are grounded fresh from different parts of the beef; and sauces created to best reflect the personality and cultural influences of each burger.
The Original Rump Shaker ($12.00)
A South Bronx Original, with house-made signature sauce full of savoury flavours, smoked bacon and melted cheese slice.
The Mac Daddy ($16.00)
Combining two comfort food favourites: A South Bronx signature burger filled with Jalapeno Mac & Cheese which will ooze with cheesy goodness on every bite.
Bangkok city inspired. An aroi prawn patty filling with hint of lemongrass, topped with red onion coleslaw and drizzled with green curry mayo sauce.
Three types of fries? Yes, all burgers are served with Triple Fries, that is curly, straight cut and criss-cut fries all together.
I personally feel that we can afford to be adventurous and experimental, to create burgers with local flavours. So I do hope South Bronx can continue to move into that direction.
The South Bronx team was experimenting with Ice Cream Burgers, and I thought that the Red Velvet and Thai Ice Tea Burgers would be hot-sellers. They have been taken off unfortunately. Hopefully one day, they could bring it back again, bettered and perfected.
