10 New Cafes In Singapore December 2015

We reached the last month of the year, when cafes open, and cafes close.

Our guess is local customers is always on a lookout for something different, refreshing (and photogenic), and therefore those who stay in the game are cafes which re-invent themselves, have regular new offerings, and keep customers updated via social media and other means.

Opening Hours: 8am – 8pm (Mon – Fri), 8am – 3pm (Sat)

Copenhagen’s popular coffee and juice bar Joe & The Juice opens its first in Singapore, at Raffles Place Chevron House. (“Joe” means “coffee” in American slang)

The juices all come in attention-grabbing names such as Hangover Heaven, Iron Man, Hell Of A Name, and… Sex Me Up. I was told that the naming is not supposed to be gimmicky, but actually fulfils the functions it purports, as ingredients are mixed based to enhance the synergistic nature of vitamins and minerals. Try the Mango Snowflake Ice with Panna Cotta ($12.90) which is the signature and best-selling item. Opening Hours: 9am – 7pm (Mon, Wed), 9am – 10:30pm (Thurs – Fri), 9:30am – 1030pm (Sat), 9:30am – 7pm (Sun), Closed Tues

This new café run by the team behind Department of Caffeine catapulted into our favourite café list. The interior design, the expensive coffee equipment, the attention to details, the good looking serving staff all in neatly-ironed slightly tight white long sleeved shirts… “Even the napkins are the expensive kind.”

Still in soft launch phase, the food is slightly uneven in terms of presentation and taste, but we are sure they will iron it out soon.

20F Specialty Coffeehouse
20 Foch Road, Singapore 209261 (Farrer Park MRT)
Opening Hours: 10am – 7pm (Mon), 10am – 10pm (Tue-Sun)

20F pays tribute to its address at 20 Foch Road, formerly a family-run clinic for 60 years.

We observed something interesting about its offerings – there are many sweet and savoury combinations in their food. The Recommended dishes for the brunch menu include the Orange Cinnamon French Toast ($15), and Duck & Waffle ($22), Pulled Duck or Pork Flatbread with Fresh Guac ($17) for the lunch menu.

20F appears to be one of the more promising recent café openings, and provides an alternative to the Chye Seng Huats and Tiramisu Heroes in the vicinity. (Read: 20F Speciality Coffeehouse Foch Road)

Caffebene Singapore
Vivocity, 1 Harbourfront Walk #02-150 Singapore 098585 (between TCC and Sushi Tei)

Caffebene, voted the best coffee brand in Korea has opened its first Singapore outlet at Vivocity. Caffebene Singapore has a menu similar to that of Korea’s. However, there are tweaks to cater to the local palate.

The selection of food offered is also smaller, with Shaved Ice Bingsu ($13.90 – $20.90) , Waffle ($6.90 – $10.90), Honey Bread ($12.90 – $13.90), Coffee, Tea and Yogurt Smoothie ($6.30 – $7.80). (Read: Caffebene Singapore Vivocity)

Nunuiwangja 눈의 왕자
HillV2, 4 Hillview Rise, #01-08, Singapore 667979
Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Mon-Sun), 10am – 10pm (Tue-Sun)

A bingsu café at HillV2. (Hooray to the new Downtown Line 2). The Classic Bingsus ($12.90) are the usual suspects: Injeolmi, Green Tea and a local rendition Milo flavoured bingsu. Safe options and not that exciting after all.

The Premium Bingsus ($14.90) sounded more interesting to us – Mango Cheese, Honey Grape and Tangerine, using tropical fruits which were uncommon in other bingsu cafes. We discovered something interesting in the midst… a popsicle within the bingsu! (Read: Nunuiwangja HillV2)
