Magnolia Bakery – Cupcake Institution To Visit In New York City, Too Sweet For Me Though
[New York City] The Magnolia Bakery is the institution to visit for the Sex and The City fans, to a lesser extent for The Devil Wears Prada supporters.
The bakery which started the whole cupcake craze in NYC Manhattan, or should I say the whole world, has been known for its handmade baked goods.
If there are only two items you can get, let it be their cupcakes especially the signature Red Velvet (USD$3.50), and famous Banana Pudding (USD$3.50 for small) with layers of vanilla wafers, fresh bananas and creamy vanilla puddings.
I come from a part of the world where cupcakes are sweet, and Magnolia’s babies are way sweeter (just for comparison) that I got a high with eyes wide open after one. How would Carrie Bradshaw manage her weight then?
The Vanilla Classic Cupcakes (USD$3.25) came in pretty pastel colours of white, pink and green – rich, buttery, though turned out to be drier than expected and could be moister.
I couldn’t decide if I really liked the Red Velvet. The whipped vanilla icing was everlasting light (nice) and never-ending sweet (argh) that overpowered the real star at the bottom.
Service was chirpy friendly, the décor was classic elegance that reminded me of the sets of Stepford Wives. Come here if you need a classic NYC cupcake and find out about the bakery that started it all.
